EXAM QUESTION 7

Explain two reasons why a film company would release a video game linked to the film:

One reason why a film company would release a video game that links to their film would purely be for promotion. Also, once you watch a movie you usually build an on screen relationship with their favorite character, then when they play the game they would really enjoy seeing more of that character and to get to know them better. For example, the Lego Movie, the audience build such a close relationship with Emmet (who is all of us) so furthermore they build a closer bond with him.

Next, for the money. The Big Six will always make such successful movies, by creating a video game too, they would make more money and create a larger target audience meaning more people would want to play the game or watch the movie. However, if I movie did not do as well as they wanted to, by creating a vide ogame linking to it, it could cause a larger interest of people (making it more likely for for them to go out and watch the movie) and there for more money would be made.

You have mostly got this. Don't be afraid to state the obvious: vertical integration enables a business (like Warner) a to maximize the potential of a brand, in this case, Lego. It gives the existing audience new experiences and pleasures outside the film and reaches new audiences, such as non-cinema going video game players. With its successful global subculture, due to its vertical integration of games, films, magazines and competitions, the Lego brand can reach out to a larger audience through its range of products.
